ECOFLEX composite: the build

This is the whole point of the house. ECOFLEX is New Age Pet’s recycled wood-plastic composite — a blend of recycled polymers and wood fiber. It gives you the warm, slatted, wood-grain look of a cottage house, but unlike real wood it won’t rot, warp, crack or absorb moisture. Rain beads off it, and because it doesn’t soak up water it resists the swelling, splitting and mildew that destroy wooden houses over a few seasons.

As always, measure your dog nose-to-tail and floor-to-shoulder, then leave a few inches of clearance so they can stand and turn comfortably. A house that’s slightly snug actually holds body heat better in cool weather; cavernous is worse, not better, for warmth.

For a low-maintenance, good-looking, genuinely durable outdoor house in a mild-to-moderate climate, it’s well-priced. The one thing it isn’t is insulated, so in a harsh winter you’ll want to add bedding or pair it with a separate heated pad.
